FansTang And The Television Academy Sign Multi-Year Deal To Broadcast The Emmy® Awards in China

FansTang and the Television Academy have entered into a three-year exclusive licensing deal to broadcast the Emmy Awards to the booming Chinese entertainment market.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the 22,000-member organization of television professionals that bestows the annual, televised Emmy® Awards ceremony recognizing excellence in U.S. television, and FansTang, China's largest provider of localized international live events, have signed a three-year exclusive China licensing deal to live-broadcast the 68th, 69th, and 70th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The deal was concluded with the Television Academy's longtime international licensing agent, Content Media Corporation and its Vice President of Sales in Asia, Diana Zakis.

The show will be streamed live on Mango TV, China's largest entertainment network's online platform. The live stream will also include a FansTang-produced customized Chinese red carpet show, and after-show interviews with the evening's winners.

As the latest addition to FansTang's extensive live-broadcast event portfolio, the three-year agreement includes the licensing rights for the Emmy Awards for both linear and digital broadcast, as well as a VOD period in China. FansTang's current roster already includes prestigious events such as the Golden Globe Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and Rock in Rio.

With over 632 million Internet users, China holds 23% of the global Internet population. 81% of content consumed in China is digital content. As the Chinese audience's voracious appetite for Western content continues to grow, and with the country's 34 per-year foreign film import quota in effect, television series are increasingly becoming the focus of content acquisition for many Chinese digital portals.

Over 100 Western TV shows are licensed by major Chinese video streaming portals. Several vastly popular shows among the Chinese audience are among those nominated for an Emmy Award this year, such as Homeland, Game of Thrones, Modern Family, Empire, Fargo and many more.

"Given Western television series' accessibility and vast popularity among the Chinese audience, the Emmy Awards is highly relevant for the China market," said Adam Roseman, FansTang's CEO. "We're thrilled to be working with the Academy to broadcast such an important Hollywood institution to China. It's a great opportunity to connect with the Chinese audience as the Emmys continues to expand and develop its brand in one of the world's largest television markets."

Diana Zakis, Vice President Sales, Asia at Content Media Corporation, added, "Every year, the Emmy Awards broadcast continues to be among our bestselling titles, offering a glittering event that celebrates the global industry's most renowned on-screen and creative talent. We're very pleased to conclude this landmark deal, strengthening this major international brand in China."
